I need help with a Kanban concept for scrum teams (PSK).

In the Scrum Guide it is written that we must start a sprint immediately after finishing the previous one.
In the Kanban Guide for Scrum Teams it says that in the definition of Workflow we can/should consider steps before and after the sprint (Upstrem for example).

My question is: How will the team start a sprint immediately when the other finishes, given that I have steps before and after the sprint in my workflow?

Sorry if my English isn't adequate, it's not my main language.

A good, concrete example is refinement. Before a Product Backlog Item is pulled into a Sprint, it needs to be refined by the team. Any steps that are part of your refinement process may very well be represented as steps in your Workflow, where your team can focus on work in a particular state at Sprint Planning.

Another example may be an integration effort. If your Scrum Team is a software development team working on a system, the next step after a Product Backlog Item is Done could involve a systems integration team that integrates the Done software with hardware built by another team.

Neither of these scenarios has any bearing on when Sprints begin and end, but there is work that happens before a Product Backlog Item is pulled into a Sprint and work that happens after the Product Backlog Item meets the Scrum Team's Definition of Done that you may want to represent on a Workflow, especially if you want to measure something like lead time before it ends up in the hands of a user.

Because those steps may occur in other Sprints, outwith the commitment point for creating Done work that meets a Sprint Goal.
