About Ian
I'm Chief Scientist at proAgile Ltd. Agile transformation is my bag. I tweet and blog quite actively about this. You can find me at scrumshack.com. I'm also the curator at agilepatterns.org.
An agile consultant, I've most recently worked as an Agile Coach at Marks & Spencer, Standard Life, and AXA Insurance. I've been a Scrum Master for the Scottish Government, a Scrum Master and Agile Coach at the Open University, an Agile Transformation Coach at Travis Perkins, and a Scrum Master at the NHS Information Centre where I coached on Agile transitioning. Before that I was a Scrum Master and Kanban Leader at O2 Telefonica. I've also assisted various Lean start-ups. I have a developer background.

The Scrum Guide is markedly ambitious in the standard of professionalism it demands of a team. Development Team members must be self-organizing and cross-functional, to the point that they will repeatedly and sustainably create a valuable product increment...

Scrum stands on the three legs of transparency, inspection, and adaptation. Of these, transparency can arguably be said to come first. Unless a situation is made clear it cannot be inspected, and any consequent adaptation arising therefrom is likely to prove futile.
