A Product Owner’s ability to effectively manage these expectations directly impacts the success of a product.

 

Describe a situation where you had multiple conflicting stakeholder requests and how you managed this situation.

An effective  Product Owner s navigates a complex web of stakeholder interests, makes clear  decisions, and ensures that product development is aligned with business goals.This question allows you to share your experience with stakeholder management and decision-making in a complex environment. It can also identify how you identify stakeholders and maintain those relationships.

 

Describe a situation where asked to give an accurate delivery date at the start of a medium/ large initiative. How did you approach this?

Why is this question important?

This question touches upon the skill of managing stakeholder expectations and the Product Owner’s ability to educate their stakeholders with regards to agile product planning vs traditional waterfall project planning.

 

Shipping or releasing a product is a decision that can involve many stakeholders. As a Product Owner, what difficulties have you experienced releasing a product to the customer. Have you ever delayed releasing? What advice do you have for overcoming common difficulties?

Why is this question important?

Getting a product into the hands of the customer is critical for measuring value and understanding next steps. This question looks for recognition of stakeholder management and how a Product Owner might classify different types of stakeholders and decide how to work with them in pursuit of value. The question might also lead to a conversation about a Product Owner’s need to be decisive and how they consider decision making within a Scrum Team.
