Ideas ro do daily stand ups differently
Hi Everybody,
I am a part of a scrum team and we daily have stand ups. All team members understand the need for stand ups. We all mention what we did yesterday, what we are going to do today and if we have any impediments.
But now these 3 statements seem to have become redundant and boring,
I would like to convey the same information in a different way to keep things fresh.
Please share your ideas and views on the same.
The daily standup is for the team to understand its progress towards the sprint goal -- and, if not, what to do about it? Its not meant to be a status meeting. Its like a sports team huddling to assess its situation and figure out its next move.
(How) Did I make progress towards the sprint goal yesterday? What do I plan to do today to move progress forward towards the sprint goal? What's getting in the way that threatens this goal from being achieved?
The Daily Scrum is an opportunity to keep the Development Team aligned to the Sprint Goal, and to highlight any need for replanning. It cannot exceed 15 minutes.
If the team finds that redundant or boring, it suggests that they either:
- have each Sprint Goal in the bag and are ready to accommodate greater challenges, or
- they are failing to work as a true team in which they are stakeholders in each others' activities
I suggest the team considers the underlying problem no later than the next Sprint Retrospective before attempting a remedy.
