Estimating for user stories using story points
Hi all,
I'm struggling to understand how we can apply story-point estimated strategy for cross-functional team which probably includes BAs, QCs, Devs
Will we split the estimate based on their specialized skill and sum up finally? E.g: Testing : 2points, Dev: 3 points. Total = 5 points
Or every team member will estimate individually for a whole story despite the fact their expertise are different?
Please give me the advice
Which approach would most enhance collaboration, and shared ownership of the work involved?
Are you required by management to assign points so that they can run reports on performance and amount of work completed?
If so, ask the Development Team members to come to consensus, or the Scrum Master helps bring them to consensus. You don't want to waste time differentiating between a 3 and a 5. It's all a forecast.
If not, why assign points at all. Ask the Development Teams members for how many Product Backlog Items they can complete in a Sprint. They select from the most refined items and convert what they select into a releasable increment.

How about whole team estimates and at the end reach to consensus ? Will this foster collaboration and shared understanding of the PBI ?
