Hackathons
At risk of being slightly off topic, does anyone find the concept of a Hackathon quite amusing? In my opinion, apart from the length of typical Hackathons (thus being an unsustainable pace), they are great examples of how every team should be enabled to work. Hackathons tend to generate the most enthusiasm and motivation from a team. Oddly, organisations treat Hackathons as something special; a rare occurrence to give a self-organising team an opportunity to deliver value quickly (admittedly, rarely to market), only to return to business as usual. Why is it more organisations don't harness the benefits of a hackathon?

Perhaps because a hackathon is contained, and if the associated practices were to get out of the sandbox they might challenge the status quo.
Mmm yes... What drives that idea to have a Hackathon in the first place?
The same idea that drives 'becoming Agile' I suppose.
