How to incorporate scrum outside of a development team
Hi all,
I have just joined the forum today in aims of understanding scrum better. I am a Business Analyst and currently on a project to incorporate Scrum as an agile way of working within the organisation that I work for.
I have a question please: how can scrum be incorporated as a way of working within a whole organisation? (not specifically the development team but just as a way of working).- What key things should I incorporate that trumps a simple process workflow?
Thanks
Peter
First of all make sure Scrum is the right framework for your company. Does your company develop complex adaptive products? Do these products need to be improved, changed or readapted in the short term based on client's/stakeholders requests? Scrum is based on agile. How agile is your company already? Is it governed mostly by a waterfall methodology of project management?
Also, why do you think Scrum would help your company? In which ways do you think it would fit well?
What key things should I incorporate that trumps a simple process workflow?
The key thing is to first ensure that even just one team is able to create a Done, usable, release-quality increment at least once per month. Ensure those team members have all the appropriate skills and authorizations, and do not face organizational impediments or dependencies to the delivery of value. To achieve this standard with even just one team may require deep and pervasive change across the enterprise.
