How to find out If PM is for me ?
Hi all, this is the time in my life when I should decide what to do. I am 27 years old and have been working in HR/PD/Learning for the last 4 years. Recently I have been thinking about changing my role completely and start being IT PM. I thought that I like have contact with people, I love running projects in my company and I like apps (concentrating on its interface, usability etc). I think it would be interesting to lead projects and deliver a working software to a client.
However, I haven't worked as Agile IT project manager before and don't know what it looks like on a daily basis, I can only suspect. Right now I think I idealize this role and don't see any flaws.
Could you please let me know what are its assets and flaws? How you day looks ?
Suppose a team started to project manage themselves. How would you feel about that?
I think you should talk to some people who have worked with project managers, including developers, customers, managers, internal stakeholders, and of course Scrum Masters.
You should also talk to people who have done the job, including some who have decided to stop doing it.
I think this forum will give you certain valuable view points, but viewed through a Scrum lens. Scrum doesn't require a project manager role, and for very good reason.
You might also want to consider whether as the market and management styles evolve, project management is a long term career goal, a stepping stone to something else, or perhaps even something you want to avoid altogether.
