Todd and Ryan are expert coaches
Todd and Ryan are expert coaches, and they facilitate a wonderful learning environment for their students. They have a great cadence switching between group lectures, small group working sessions, and large group exercises. I highly recommend them to anyone wanting to better their Scrum practice.
I will note that this class specifically is for people who are already somewhat experienced with Scrum. The Product Backlog Management class provides helpful real-world tricks to improve the way your organization is already doing Scrum. It is NOT an introduction to backlog management. If you're newer to Scrum, one of their more general courses for Scrum Master, Product Owner, or Developer may be better suited for you.

Transformative Leadership Insight - A Review of the PAL I Class with Ryan Ripley and Todd Miller
I recently had the privilege of attending the Professional Agile Leadership Essentials™ (PAL-E) class facilitated by the dynamic duo of Ryan Ripley and Todd Miller. This experience wasn't just another step in my professional development; it was a leap forward.
From the onset, Ryan and Todd's co-instructor model proved to be incredibly effective. Their synergy was palpable, creating an environment that was not just conducive to learning, but also highly engaging. With every activity and discussion, their profound knowledge of Agile principles shone through, illuminating complex concepts with ease and clarity.
The class itself was a masterclass in balancing theory with practical application. The hands-on, activity-based approach ensured that each of us could translate Agile leadership concepts into actionable strategies tailored for our unique organizational contexts.
The insights into supporting, guiding, and coaching Agile teams were particularly impactful. We dove deep into the essence of Agile leadership, exploring how it differs from traditional management and why it's crucial for fostering the conditions necessary for true agility.
Ryan and Todd's adept facilitation encouraged us to challenge our preconceptions and embrace the Agile mindset fully. They navigated us through the intricacies of leadership roles within Agile environments, ensuring we understood not just the 'what' but the 'how' and 'why'.
I walked away from the class not just with a wealth of knowledge but also with the confidence to sit for the PAL I Certification Exam. I feel equipped with the tools and understanding necessary to effect meaningful change in my organization and to guide my teams toward achieving peak agility.
For leaders at any level embarking on or steering through an Agile transformation, this class is an invaluable resource. Ryan and Todd don't just teach you about Agile leadership—they exemplify it.

An awesome Course by the Masters of Scrum
I recently had the privilege of attending the Professional Scrum Product Backlog Management skills training conducted by Todd Miller and Ryan Ripley. As a fellow Professional Scrum Trainer that is still fairly new to the community I am very impressed of the comprehensive and insightful training delivered by these two giants of our community. They are not only expert Scrum Trainers but also the creators of this enriching and practical course. Mind you training other trainers is one of the hardest challenges that a trainer can face.
Todd and Ryan thoroughly covered the principles of Product Backlog Management. Their method of teaching was interactive and engaging, making complex concepts easy to grasp. The real-world examples and practical exercises enriched the learning experience, making the application of Product Backlog Management straightforward in a real-world setting.Highly highly recommended!

Very well done class
Very well done class. I was surprised at how simple the concepts seemed. I had actually been looking for a course that integrated Scrum and Kansan since I completed a CSPO class since sometime in the summer or fall of 2021 after the Scrum Trainer co-led a Scrum and Kansan class. Although to no avail.
I happened to see the PSK course show up being led by Ryan Ripley and Todd Miller. Google brought it up on my iPhone when I loaded the Google Search Engine on my iPhone. Interestingly, it was what I was looking for. However, I had also listened to a number of their YouTube videos in early 2021. They happened to be familiar faces which gave me more comfort in signing up for a class they were providing in concert with Dan Vacante.
This was my first Scrum.org class and assessment I took. I found it to be a rather tough although I did pass. In retrospect, I think I would have studied for and acquired the PSM I first before taking this assessment. Still, the PSK assessment set the tone, and I had a better idea of what to expect going forward.

Ryan and Todd are fun to work with
Ryan and Todd are fun to work with. Having two instructors that play off of each other well, really helps with getting questions answered and keeping class flow smooth. IF you want a good picture of what their class is like check out their Youtube videos, then imagine actually being part of the conversations instead of just listening. Much of the class is also activity driven giving you a chance to hear about the lenses other people see Scrum through. My focus was about formalizing and learning the language, and it turned out their class really built up my confidence in the idea that I had already been doing the job. Ryan and Todd really gave me the terms to believe it and the refinement to improve on my skills and expand my tool box.

This class has a ton of good information in it. Not enough organizations focus on running actual experiments. So much has been written about a Scrum Master needing to have facilitation skills. But what about a Product Owner? In this article, I’d like to make the case that a Product Owner having facilitation skills is as important as a Scrum Master having them.

An important thing to understand when getting started with EBM is that there is such a thing as going too fast and too soon. EBM can create a lighting bolt of transparency, which in turn, could cause irrational responses. We humans can be emotionally triggered when we find a situation is much different than it appears.

In organizations, there is a lot of time and activity spent on teams creating Release Plans. Is it worth it? Or are Release Plans just creating a false sense of security? In this article, I take a hard look at my past practices using Release Plans and how, if I knew what I know now, I would have abandoned that practice and instead used Evidence-Based Management.
Nov 2, 2023
As Evidence-Based Management (EBM) grows in popularity, I am often asked how to get started with it. With that, I have created a few questions that you should consider as you begin using EBM.

Overmanaging a Product Backlog can be wasteful. Product Backlog Items are no guarantee of value so details should be added with the minimum amount of detail to perform the work.
Sep 26, 2023
A lot of Scrum Teams are struggling to get stakeholder engagement in their Sprint Reviews. Without the proper engagement from stakeholders, Product Owners run the risk of not properly adapting the Product Backlog. There are many different ways to spawn better stakeholder engagement. This article is going to focus on an aspect often not considered: who is invited.
Sep 21, 2023
We often get caught up in the tools we use and feel like we need to get our money’s worth by using every feature. Instead of creating transparency, using every feature of a tool often degrades the transparency of the Product Backlog. Keeping things simple and using a method such as a naming convention might be all that you need. Consider what is simple, is easiest to manage, and gives you the opportunity to create the most transparency.
Sep 19, 2023
The Scrum Guide is rather vague about how Product Backlog Items should be structured and how to make them transparent. That is by design because Scrum is intentionally incomplete. Understanding what attributes you are dealing with is helpful in creating a well-structured Product Backlog.
Sep 12, 2023
In Scrum, it is the expectation that the Product Owner makes the Product Backlog transparent. Making the Product Backlog transparent doesn’t just mean making it visible; it means making it easy to understand, to convey meaning, and to have it illustrate the ‘why’ behind the Product Owner’s decisions. Introducing levels of decomposition is an optional practice that can be applied when a situation calls for it.
