What is a Developer on a Scrum Team?

The Developers are the Scrum Team members that create the product. Often people associate the word “developer” with coder or programmer in software. But that is not the case, think of a developer as someone who helps to create (develop) a valuable product for a customer, no matter what kind of product it is.

The Scrum Guide outlines the accountabilities of the Developers as:

  • Creating a plan for the Sprint, the Sprint Backlog;
  • Instilling quality by adhering to a Definition of Done;
  • Adapting their plan each day toward the Sprint Goal; and,
  • Holding each other accountable as professionals.
