Scrum.org Launches New Professional Product Ownership Initiative Aligning with the Evolution of Agility

September 12, 2024

Introducing the Agile Product Operating Model, New Product Discovery and Validation Course and a Product Ownership Workshop

Boston, September 12, 2024 - Scrum.org, the Home of Scrum, has unveiled a new Professional Product Ownership initiative to bolster product thinking within the Agile community. Scrum.org is helping organizations focus on delivering value with their products through the introduction of the Agile Product Operating Model. Scrum.org has also introduced the new Professional Product Discovery and Validation (PPDV) training course and the new Professional Product Ownership Capabilities (PPOC) workshop to add to its existing portfolio of product-focused training courses.

Since its inception in 2009, Scrum.org and its Professional Scrum Trainer (PST) community have consistently prioritized enabling people and teams to deliver valuable products with greater agility. While technologies and markets have evolved, the fundamental need to continuously learn while delivering incrementally remains as critical as ever, and as such Scrum.org has launched this new initiative.

The Agile Product Operating Model
The Agile Product Operating Model emphasizes the principles of product thinking, and helps organizations streamline their product development processes and drive innovation with an evidence-based approach to decision making. Organizations that adopt this model align around individual products, with each product having its own adaptable operating model. With this new initiative integrating Professional Scrum and product thinking, the Agile Product Operating Model represents the next step in the evolution of Agile practices embraced by Scrum.org. Scrum.org will provide practitioners with the knowledge needed to navigate the complexities of modern product management, by integrating this way of thinking into its training courses and learning resources.

“Scrum has proven its effectiveness in product delivery being used by millions of teams every day. However, the jump to value and true business agility has proven challenging as organizations wrestle with how they are organized and aligned to outcomes,” said Dave West, CEO of Scrum.org. “Product provides a great and emerging paradigm. The Agile Product Operating Model provides us with the opportunity to unify the worlds of product, Professional Scrum and modern management practices.”

Professional Product Discovery and Validation (PPDV) Training Course

The new PPDV course by Scrum.org offers hands-on training to enhance value creation through product discovery and validation practices. Participants learn essential techniques for developing and improving products with a user-centric, empirical end-to-end approach. Upon completion, students receive a password to attempt the exclusive PPDV Certification, which is available exclusively to students at this time.

“It is not only important to know and discover your product, but to have the ability and the tools to validate them,” said Joaquín Gómez Urbano, PPDV Beta student. “This course offers and gives the capacity of analysis and that necessary step back to value and justifies the decisions that will make your company or team participate in the whole life cycle of your work.” Reviewed on TrustPilot

Product Ownership Workshop

The new Professional Product Ownership Capabilities Workshop (PPOC) by Scrum.org helps organizations enhance their ability to deliver valuable products while creating a positive impact. During the workshop, teams assess their capabilities across nineteen Product Ownership areas, rate their proficiencies, and provide supporting evidence. The Professional Scrum Trainer (PST) then collaborates with the team to define their desired state, create an actionable improvement plan, and begin taking incremental actions. The workshop covers capabilities such as customer engagement, product vision, market navigation, and product strategy development.

As Scrum.org continues to champion the principles of a product mindset, the capabilities and skills of Professional Product Ownership and the Agile Product Operating Model, these new initiatives reflect its commitment to advancing the capabilities of individuals and teams in solving complex problems.
