Passed PSM I with 98%
I just passed my PSM I in first attempt! I've always heard that the exam was tough, so I was really nervous when I was taking the exam. My hands were shaking all the way.
I knew nothing about Scrum before I took this exam and I have no Scrum related working experience at all! I just graduated from university and thought that it will be useful if I can get myself a few certificates. I did my research and decided to take PSM I because it is the only affordable certificate for me. And so, after studying for four days, I decided to take the exam.
The exam was indeed much tougher than the open assessment and I thought that I may not be able to pass. To my surprise, I managed to get 98% and would like to share with everyone how I prepared for the exam!
1. Read the Scrum guide several times.
2. Took the open assessments a few times and made sure I get 100% every single time. I actually took all the open assessments (Scrum, Nexus, Product Owner and Developer) but that was not necessary. You only need to take Scrum and Product Owner open assessments.
3. Read Scrum Narrative and PSM Exam Guide book. It is really detailed and informative. Must read!
4. Read Management Plaza's The Scrum Master Training Manual
5. Do Mikhail Lapshin's quiz several times. (http://mlapshin.com/index.php/psm-quiz/)
And that's it!
Good luck to everyone taking the exam! :)
Hi Lee,
Where can I find the Scrum Narrative amd PSM Exam Guide? I am not able to find it :(
Hi Lee, congratulations on passing the PSM 1 Exam!
I am also very excited but so anxious preparing for the Exam. I am glad I heard you say to take Mikhail Lapshin's quiz several times, which to me is indeed very difficult, like I cannot get more than 60% for the past few real quiz. I reverted to learning mode and now I am learning a lot more.
QUESTION: Once I could get a score of at least 95% on M Lapshin's quiz, would you recommend I go ahead and take the PSM 1 Exam?
Thanks!
All,
Glad to announce that I passed the PSM I certification exam yesterday. I clicked the wrong button to review checked question on first trial and I got 84% - missed by a question. I immediately re-registered and retook the exam again. I was upset with my unfortunate error of pushing the wrong button, but my confidence tells me I knew the material and don't need further study so I retook the exam and passed.
I haven't done much reading as Lee Hui Shan has suggested, but if I should do it again I'll certainly prepare thoroughly following Lee's plan.
Looking forward to PSM II soon and Good Luck to all new takers!!!

I got the book Scrum narrative and PSM exam guide here https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018JXYRNA
It is very useful and relevant to anyone learning scrum from exam and practice standpoint
Hello Lee Hui Shan,
I have one question regarding Nexus. How many question will need to solve in PSM I exam? I found someone said he faced 7-8 question. Is it ture ?
@MD Abdul, There are NO questions about Nexus on the PSM I exam. All questions are pure Scrum. You may be asked about multiple teams but nothing to do with Nexus.
Hi All,
I am writing my experience on PSM1 exam which I have passed on 5th Jan 2020 with 88.8% (71 out of 80). Exam was not so tough only thing is timing, you need to answer 80 questions within 60 mins. I was able to complete within 59 mins and did not have time to review it.
Few Tips:
- Read Scrum Guide thoroughly and understand each line.
- Practice free assessment from SCRUM.ORG and keep practicing until you get score 100% within 8-9 mins.
- Get some more paid test engine to do more test and familiar with multiple questions and multiple scenario. Please don’t expect exact questions in exam. Test engine will give you more confident to clear the exam.
I have used below test engine
https://www.whizlabs.com/ ( Paid)
https://www.volkerdon.com/ (Paid)
https://www.udemy.com/ ( Paid)
https://mlapshin.com/index.php/scrum-quizzes/sm-real-mode/ ( Free)
- Do all the test multiple times unless you score above 90% and Review all incorrect multiple times unless you correct it next attempts.
- Do not get panic in exam, if you have proper practice then definitely you will clear the exam.
All the best .
Thanks & Regards,
