Passed PSM 1 exam

Congratulation, I desperately did the exam 3 times and I’m failing at 72.5 at most
Could you please help me with a couple of questions?

Yes sure @mas. please let me know what are your questions and i will surely try t answer them.

Thats twelve questions or fifteen percent of the exam, not five at six percent.
Were stepping the boundaries of a few questions into several into many beyond that.
The idea from the feedback you get is that you go away and research it?
Scrum.org don't give you the answer for that reason so the exam retains value.
A good SM should coach a good potential SM should study.

My advice is look at the feedback from scrum.org, research it and re sit the exam.
You have to sit the exam and have areas to study where you are weak.
Question sets are not the same so irrespective of what answers are given here, if you don't know
the subject there is no guarantee a fourth attempt will gain success.
If you sat a fourth and used the answers here and failed would feel even worse.
Feedback is given to improve not just copy and paste for someone else to answer.
Remember its a SM so look beyond just copy and paste, no one said it would be easy.

I agree with Michael , youre not prepping enough if your getting 72% , i failed at 82.5% and I KNOW it was because i didn't prep nearly enough.

It's tempting to take the strategy of looking at all the PSM I Exam stuff in this forum. But I would suggest you search on your weak areas in the forums. For example, if you're not sure about Sprint Reviews, read up on them.

I haven't taken my PSM I exam yet, but plan to soon.

From my point of view, the questions are a little bit harder than the open assessment, and you have 80 and not only 30 questions, so it needs more focus.
The open assessment is a very good training for the PSM I.
You have to be very easy with the open assessment before taking PSM I.

Use the scrum open to understand the test format. But, it is intended to test just the bssic knowledge and hence can't be considered to reflect the diffcilty level of psm.

If you only focus on practing and paaing the assessment, be aware that you may be mislead by many paid simulation tests on the market.

Have a genuine interest in learning about Scrum, follow the conversation in this forum, and understand why something is most appropriate choice in a given situation.

-Scrum Narrative and psm exam guide
- Michael Lapshin simulation tests

I failed my exam third time too and i feel very depressed and annoyed. Whenever i took open assesment and mkhlain real mode, I scored decent but it seems real exam asks you some real scenrario questions plus I was spending way too much time on each question

i would appreciate any tips or suggestions.

Hello Parul, 

PSM exam is not just about questions you will find everywhere. From my expereince, it's more about the scrum framework than the real world implementtation in various organizations which many a times get customized.

Here is what I did to pass PSM 1 in 1st attempt with 99%.

1. Read through the Scrum guide a few times - To understand the real framework, terms and terminologies.

2. 30 Question Open assessment - Multiple times until you get 100% consistently (once just before attempting the exam)

3. mlapshin free quiz - couple of times using learning mode to understand each question and its answer. Then in real mode few times until I got above 95% consistently (once just before attempting the exam)

4. mplaza simulation exams - 3 separate sets of exams. Got through this along with understanding the questions and the answers carefully. Took time. Gave all three sets until I got above 95% consistently. (once just before attempting the exam)

5. Spent more time to understand questions and topics which require multiple answers to be selected.

Finally, try to keep up with the pace while practice tests. You should be able to complete each full length practice test within 20-25 mins. The reason is that, on the actual exam - you may feel time is running out.

In my opinion, do not lose hope if you really want to do PSM. Practice the simulations as much as you can once you feel REAL confident, then only attemp the exam. One caution as well - there are few basic Scrum related questions you wouldn't find on these simulations or in the scrum guide I believe but I may be wrong.

I successfully passed today on my first try the PSM I exam.

I found some questions much more difficult than the Open assessment and a little more difficult than the simulator questions in:

I strongly recommend the MPlaza Simulator (obviously after a deep understanding of the Scrum Guide) for a final validation before the exam (you must have 95% or more before scheduling the exam).

I cleared PSM I on first attempt with 92.3%.

Followed the below steps:

1. Read "The Scrum Guide" 2 times.

2. Read in parallel, "The Scrum Guide" along with Part 1 and Part 2 of "Scrum Narrative and PSM Exam Guide" (Available with Amazon) which explains the details of each point of "The Scrum Guide". Attempted Questions from Part 1 and Part 2 without looking at answers first. :-)

3. Read Part 3 of "Scrum Narrative and PSM Exam Guide" and attempted questions from Part 3 without looking at answers first. :-)

4. Read "Nexus guide" and "Kanban guide" to cover sudden surprises in the exam.

5. Attempted open assessments, "Scrum Open" 5 times,  "Product Owner Open" 3 times, "Scrum Developer" open 3 times, "Nexus Open" 2 times, "Kanban Open" 3 times, "Agile Open" 3 times to make sure I clear 100% in all open assessments.

6. Attempted Quizzes and Model assessment from "Scrum Narrative and PSM Exam Guide". 2 times.

7. Attempted free model exams from Mikhail Lapshin.

8. Finally went through "The Scrum Guide" again.

This preparation was enough to cover 80% of the exam.  Remaining 20% questions I faced were new and based on the real-time applications of scrum framework.

I am satisfied with the lectures I went through. I have also taken the open assessment as many times as possible with a 100% score. My worry is that the scenario type of questions seen in the final assessment are not tested in the open examination. It is good to test on 80 questions to train candidates learn how to manage time.

In May 2019 I took the Professional Scrum Master I exam and successfully passes it with 91.3 % score, e.i. 73 points out of 80. 

Here I am sharing with you my experience from the exam and how I prepared myself:

Preparation:

• Read the Scrum Guide thoroughly, not memorize it rather to understand it. feel it by your heart! The moment you feel comfortable to run a lecture about Scrum for a large group of audiences and be ready to answer all possible questions, then you have got it by your heart.
• Take free online tests to prove your knowledge, and not just once rather more and more until you can answer each question in less than 5 second. The reason is that in the real exam there will be some identical questions from these sample test. So exceptionally I do recommend to even memorize them! Here are the list of all free sample tests I tried: Scrum Open Assessment, Mikhail Lapshin, ClassMaker & Simplilearn
• In the Mikhail Lapshin website, also navigate through the Scrum Questions. Very useful information helped me understand some topics well.
• Read Scrum Glossary too to get familiar with more keywords 

Exam:

• Total 80 number of questions and passing score is minimum 85% equal to 68 right answers
• You only have 60 minutes, so time management is a key factor (my strategy: covering at least 7 questions in each 5 minutes)
• There were around 30 identical questions from all above sample free tests (that's why I mentioned about answering the in less than 5 second. This will help you a lot to save time for other questions)
• Out of 80 questions, around 30 questions were straight forward were I could find the answers right from the Scrum Guide 
• The rest of the questions (around 50) were not straight forward, a type of comprehension questions which require you to understand the Scrum philosophy by heart. The Scrum Questions by Mikhail Lapshin is an relevant source.
• Almost half of the questions had long text (like 3-line question and 2-line multi answers). Best strategy is to first understand the question well and then just look for the required key words in multi answers rather than reading the whole text
