Looking for EBM and KVA-KVM case studies
Hi,
Im looking for EBM case studies where I can read about what specific Key Value Measures were created for the different Key Value Areas, and potentially how they evaluated and adapted those.
Personal stories are also welcome :)
Thank you!
I have a personal opinion. For Agile teams, measuring overall performance can be very subjective and outright difficult. EVM formulas are simple, but value delivered or earned value is often subjective or outright difficult to calculate, when the project/product is unfinished. In addition Agile teams work collaboratively as a team, innovate, and have a focus on quality. These attributes are harder to quantify than say "hours worked by a person" in traditional methodologies. "Velocity in story points" are often substituted for "hours worked", but velocity measurements impact on a teams self-management ability and can in itself hold teams back, amoung other problems. (There were multiple discussions on this forum speaking out against using velocity as a KPI.)
I think longer term trends in customer feedback, and quantitative trends in lead time, cycle time, defects per release, work items / issues resolved and using Evidence-Based Management (EBM) on long-term trends like time-to-market can be helpful. Quality assurance metrics in defect count, defects resolved, test coverage etc. can also help paint the picture. Agile attributes like "ability to innovate", adaptability to change, transparency etc. are not easy to quantify, and stakeholder surveys may give an indication of the progress.
I believe one needs to build a variety of measurements subjective and quantifiable and track long term trends.
