Professional Scrum Master

Live Virtual Class, November 30-December 1, 2024

Class Overview

Professional Scrum Master™ course is to create the foundational knowledge of Scrum and understanding of the accountability of the Scrum Master to help teams and organizations to implement scrum. Being an effective Scrum Master requires specific skills and traits. Professional Scrum Master course enables Scrum Masters, to identify these skills and traits and start building these abilities to be more effective in their own contexts.

This course is a combination of team-based exercises and discussions that leads to exploring and understanding the key principles and values of Scrum that enable product development in complex environments. Throughout the course, students are challenged to think in terms of the Scrum principles to understand better what to do when returning to the workplace.

The course also includes a free attempt at the globally recognized Professional Scrum Master I certification exam (PSM I). This certificate never expires and does not need any annual renewal.

Who should attend?

The Professional Scrum Master course is for anyone involved in product delivery using the Scrum framework. It is particularly beneficial for those people within an organization who are accountable for implementing Scrum, including Scrum Masters, Managers, Scrum Team members, Leads, and Agile Coaches.

Course topics:

Scrum theory and principles:

Understanding empirical process control, scrum rules, and values. Why does Scrum work? Which are the theoretical foundations and principles? How does Scrum differ from traditional software development, and why is it better for product development?

The Scrum framework:

How is Scrum theory implemented through time-boxes events, roles, rules, and artifacts? We will experience why the Scrum framework is constructed as it is and how you, as a Scrum Master, can effectively use Scrum to control risks and create maximum value.

Scrum Accountabilities – Product Owner, Scrum Master, and Developers:

Learn accountabilities, responsibilities, and skills required for each of the Scrum framework roles to develop products using empiricism.

The Definition of Done & Acceptance Criteria:

What is the meaning of “DONE” in Scrum, and why is it important? Discussion about Technical Debts.

Product Delivery with Scrum Framework:

Learning by doing is the key factor here. Participants work in a group like real scrum teams. They learn by practicing Scrum on a live project. Small Scrum team plays roles, creates artifacts to understand transparency, and uses inspection and adaptation events.

Working with People And Teams:

“Our problems are not technological, they are sociological” – Peopleware.

When working with teams we deal with people first and tools and processes later. Understanding what drives, motivates team members is key to creating a hyper performing team. Participants will explore typical challenges and possible ways to deal with them.

Working with Organizational Challenges:

It is more like an assessment to understand what organizations do good or not while practicing Scrum. People identify areas that need further improvement to gain from Scrum.

The Role of Scrum Master:

An empowered Scrum Master can bring in positive change, but change becomes difficult when the change agent is not pragmatic.

Essential Elements for Agile Ways of Working:

What makes agile work? What are the underpinning values of agile?

What benefits are there if we approach product development the agile way? How does agile differs from traditional? All these and many such questions will be explored and answered during the session.

Tools to Manage Product Development using Scrum:

Should tools be the driving factor for your agile adoption, or should they complement your way of working? Which tool is best suited for your team? How to use the tools effectively?

An effective Scrum Master will be able to navigate through such scenarios in a way where the tools and practices improve the effectiveness of the Scrum team.
