Applying Professional Scrum for Software Development

Applying Professional Scrum for Software Development (APS-SD) is a hands-on workshop designed to immerse participants in delivering high-quality software through integrating Scrum with Agile and DevOps practices. Students work in Scrum Teams over several Sprints, creating code on a realistic software system to learn Scrum while using Scrum.

Over the three days, students gain a real-world view of building software with Scrum. They collaborate over multiple Sprints, applying modern engineering practices and using the Scrum framework to manage complexity. 

The key focus of the class is on how to develop and deliver increments of releasable functionality. Throughout the workshop, participants confront real-world challenges and issues, gradually honing their skills through iterative Sprints and refining their approach to work.

Who should attend?

All members of a Scrum Team involved in developing and delivering software-based systems, including architects, analysts, programmers, database developers, testers, managers, operations, and others, including Scrum Masters and Product Owners.

Learning Objectives

• Experience real collaboration between Developers, Product Owner and Scrum Master as they strive to create and deliver high-quality and valuable products.
• Build and deliver working software using modern Agile engineering practices and supportive DevOps tools.
• Understand the synergy between the various elements of Scrum and complementary practices.
• Leave the class with ways to recognize common pitfalls and how to avoid them.

Assessments & Certification

All participants completing the Applying Professional Scrum for Software Development class will receive a password to attempt the Professional Scrum Developer I (PSD I) assessment. Participants who attempt the PSD I assessment
within 14 days of receiving their free password and do not score at least 85% will be granted a 2nd attempt at no additional cost

About The Trainer

Sam is a dynamic agile practitioner, Scrum Master, Agile Coach, and Professional Scrum Trainer. Sam's first encounter with Scrum was in 2007 and over the years he has accumulated a lot of experience supporting organisations to deliver value to their customers using the Scrum Framework.

Previous clients include Large organisations such as Barclays, HSBC, Ministry of Justice, TUI, UBS, Channel4, BBC Worldwide, and a large number of start-ups around the world.

When not training, Sam works as an Enterprise Agile Coach where he supports organizations in scaling their implementation of Agile Frameworks (e.g. Scrum, Kanban) up to the Executive level of the organization. Agile Frameworks including the complimentary practices and tools are great but Sam's ultimate goal is to support the organizations on building the mindset that is required for Agility to thrive.
